And my best score at each.... Its not all good :)
All within n a 30 minute drive of Oulton Hall Academy.
This list has some world class courses but also some great little hidden gems that are really affordable.
1. Alwoodley Golf Club - Par 71 -3 (68)
I can't imagine this course not being at the top of any golfer's list in the Leeds area. Alwoodley, host of numerous British Open qualifying events, is ranked No. 15 on the top 100 golf courses in the UK, and it's right on our doorstep! The course is always in great condition and is one of the best draining golf courses I've ever played.
Although it is a pricey green fee at £150.00, I can say it's worth it. The signature hole is the par 4 18th (as pictured above), measuring nearly 470 yards, with bunkers lining both sides of the fairway and a magnificent view of the iconic clubhouse in the background
2. Moortown Golf Club - Par 71 -1 (70) This got me my first win of my professional career
Close second having hosted a Ryder Cup and listed no.53 on the top 100 courses in the UK. We are so lucky to have two of the best courses in the country so close to us. Its a very good test of golf with some seriously sloping greens that can get very, if your not careful you can easily put your ball straight off the green.
Again another pricey course but I do believe there is twilight rates and this course should be on list of the courses to play for any golfer in the Leeds area
3. Huddersfield Golf Club - Par 72 -3 (69) Best course for the price
"For £60.00, you will not find a better golf course in the UK at that price. Fixby has an amazing variety of holes, with my favorite being the Par 4 12th, an epic crescent moon hole.
Every hole is unique, and the greens are first class. To score at Huddersfield GC, shot shaping is a must. As a heather/heath land course, it drains well, and the greens are lightning fast.
It's also the home course of my good friend and YouTube sensation, Gary Martin."
4. Howley Hall Golf Club - Par 71 -2 (69)
"This is the most deceivingly difficult course I have ever played. On first look, the course and scorecard appear very pleasant and unassuming, but it actually has tight fairways lined with trees, fast and sloping greens that are small. Missing the green often results in a challenging chip shot.
Despite its challenges, this course has produced some of the country's finest golfers, including Marcus Armitage, Danny Dennison, Daniel Hutchinson, and Dan Gavins. When the greens are in top shape, it's hard to find better greens anywhere.
To score well on this course, you need accuracy from the tee, not distance, and a sharp short game."
5. Tankersley Golf Club Par 70 NEVER BROKE 90 - BUT A GOOD COURSE
"I have never had a good round of golf at Tankersley GC, but it is a real hidden gem in South Yorkshire. In my opinion, it has the hardest starting and finishing combinations that I've ever played, with the 18th being an absolute brute of a par 4 to finish. The dunes tower on both sides of the fairway.
Despite being a tough course, it's always in great condition and any golfer would have a great time playing it. However, this course holds mental scars for me. I developed the putting yips while playing here in the Sheffield Stroke Play event, and it was a horrible sight to see. Some courses are just too difficult to crack, but you can still appreciate that it's a top track."
WHATS YOU FAVORITE COURSE AROUND HERE?
I can Confirm that Howley is a tough test. I haven’t had the pleasure of Alwoodley but agree all the other courses are great courses.
